Companies are still spending on XR & the initiatives aren’t creating money for shareholders yet!
Meta has been spending $10–12B per year on its XR initiatives
30–50% of Apple patents have been attributed to XR-related functionality
Microsoft signed a contract with the U.S. Army for HoloLens headsets that ultimately fell through, failed field tests and resulted in some layoffs.
Snap and Google have spent billions just on XR-related acquisitions.
Many Investors still believe XR is the future! Why?
Today, VR is used in engineering, industrial design, film production, assembly lines and some schools. Johns Hopkins has also been using XR devices for live patient surgery!
The unveiling of Apple’s mixed-reality device this spring will be critical. Apple leads the market in its ability to produce world-class hardware.
According to Zuckerberg, “The hardest technology challenge of our time may be fitting a supercomputer into the frame of normal-looking glasses. But it's the key to bringing our physical and digital worlds together.” - AKA ~ The mass computing power and lightweight capabilities could be groundbreaking if delivered effectively
